Michael Essien's second goal in as many matches lifted Chelsea back into second place in the Barclays Premier League.
Essien, starting only his second match since damaging knee ligaments on international duty last September, hit the target on the turn from 18 yards in the 17th minute after Frank Lampard's clever free-kick had caught City napping.
It was enough for the Blues to leapfrog Liverpool on goal difference as they made it four consecutive league wins under Guus Hiddink.
A full match report will be available shortly.
