Primier League Football News

Portsmouth 2-1 Everton

Two goals by Peter Crouch eased Portsmouth's relegation worries and dented Everton's Champions League hopes.

Pompey had to come from behind after Leighton Baines whipped in a wicked free-kick to put the visitors in front after just four minutes.

But Crouch brought the home side level with a towering header on 22 minutes. And the England striker repeated the feat 15 minutes from time to give his side a precious victory.

Blackburn Rovers 1-1 West Ham United

Substitute Keith Andrews salvaged a point for Blackburn Rovers to boost their battle against the drop.

Mark Noble scored his fifth goal of the season to put West Ham ahead in the 35th minute, striking home a low right-footed shot.

But Rovers levelled on 51 minutes when Pedersen's long throw caused problems in the Hammers box and the ball burst loose to Andrews, who lashed home right-footed.

Fulham 2-0 Manchester United

Fulham blew the title race wide open with a sensational win over nine-man Manchester United at Craven Cottage.

Danny Murphy put Fulham in front from the penalty spot when Paul Scholes was sent off for handling a Bobby Zamora goal-bound header in the 17th minute.

Zoltan Gera condemned United to their first back-to-back top flight defeats for four years when he scored a second in the 87th minute.

United's miserable afternoon was capped seconds later when Wayne Rooney was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Stoke City 1-0 Middlesbrough

A late goal decided the match in Stoke City's favour at the Britannia Stadium.

Ryan Shawcross' 84th-minute header earned Stoke a 1-0 victory at home to Middlesbrough and provided a huge boost to their Barclays Premier League relegation battle.

The defender escaped his marker to deflect Rory Delap's long throw into the far corner of the net.

Stoke had carved out the best of few chances created, and the result increased the pressure on Boro.

West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Bolton Wanderers

West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers played out a draw at the Hawthorns.

A Danny Shittu own goal eight minutes from time salvaged a point for the Baggies but it may prove not enough as they aim to avoid relegation.

Matt Taylor had fired Bolton into a 67th minute lead when a long Jussi Jaaskelainen clearance was headed clear by Jonas Olsson, and Taylor was first to react as he volleyed home from just inside the box.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Manchester United with this defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

United had earlier lost 2-0 to Fulham but Luka Modric's goal in this delayed kick-off due to a problem on the roads around White Hart Lane proved to be the difference.

Newcastle United 1-3 Arsenal

Arsenal continued their good run of form with a victory over Newcastle United.

Nicklas Bendtner headed the Gunners in front only for Obafemi Martins to atone for a first-half penalty miss with a 58th-minute equaliser.

Abou Diaby restored Arsenal's lead with a superb effort and the match was effectively over within seconds when Samir Nasri fired home a third.
